  Why Core Bit (Drill Bit) and Wood Blade (Carbide) sharpen regularly?

  

  Core bit and carbide wood blade should be sharpened regularly to ensure the consistency in cutting results. Yes, indeed – very important to check it’s status since often used of these blades and bits may result to ineffective cutting and drilling as well as risking the users safety measures if some failure may occur.
  
  Sharpening wood blades and drill bits is a comparatively easy task. It saves you bucks, as you don’t need to purchase new or pay someone to sharpen the carbide wood blades and core drill bits for you.(see more of how to use wood blade in concrete saw)
  
  
  In order to sharpen your wood blades or core bits, all you need is water, a brick or a concrete bricks, and of course, safety equipment.
  
  

  1 - Set-up the water you will be using by hooking a hook on the faucet and applying a midrange level of water pressure. Aim the water on the brick or concrete block and have it continuously run on the surface you will cut the diamond blade into.

  
  

  2 - Carefully turn the saw on and start cutting into the brick or concrete block. The water helps sharpens wood blades because it mixes with the vestiges produced by the saw. The resulting paste-like slurry is abrasive enough to sharpen the wood blade. Continuously doing so will wear the carbide wood blade down, thereby exposing new diamonds.

  
  

  3 - 2-3 inches of cutting into the brick or block concrete is enough. Use eye protection and wear goggles to ensure safety while sharpening the diamond blades for your saw.

  4. Repeat until you’ve reached the desired sharpness of the wood blade. It normally depends on the dullness of the blade and the abrasiveness of the brick or block concrete. The amount of water used and the blade hardness are also factors on how long the process takes.

  
  There you have it. It’s just that easy right? Now after sharpening wood blade, let’s talk about the core bits. Here are a few tips for sharpening core bits:
  
  

  1 - Prevention is always better than cure so to maintain the sharpness of your core bits, make it a habit to return them safely to their case instead of just tossing them into your toolbox. The tips are then protected from breaking while the edges from dulling.

  
  

  2 - Using a fine metal file, file drill bits at a repetitive angled pressure at the tip of the drill bit. You can easily test the sharpness by using the tip of your finger. Keep repeating until you have reached the desired sharpness.

  
  

  3 - Have an electric bench grinder hold the drill bit firmly in its core using low speed. Apply light pressure and rotate the core bits to all sides until it is sharpened. Don’t forget to cool the core bits repeatedly.

  
  

  4 - Insert the core bit then into a vise and continue filing the ridges using a metal file.

  Tips in Changing Core Bit from Drill Machine

  

  When drilling using a core bit, there might times that an operator may need to change the core bit and replaced a new one. One of the main or common mistakes observed when handling core bit drill is the incorrect size of the hole which means the project is totally ruin when that results may occur. In order to drill the hole with correct diameter, the core drill user or operator should see and know how to change a core bits in the core drill.
  
  Changing the core bit in the core drill
  
  

  1 – Make sure that the core drill machine is unplugged.
  

  2 – Removed the chucked key from the key holder of the power tool usually located on the right side of the drilling machine which is just above the chuck.

  
  

  3 - Insert the chuck key into the chuck of the core bit drill, ensuring that the teeth on the chuck key interlock with the teeth on the core drill chuck. Turn the chuck key counterclockwise to loosen the chuck and release the bit.

  
  

  4 - Remove the core bit and replace it with the desired and proper size drill bit. Make certain that the shaft of the new drill bit is in the drill chuck straight and as far as it can go. Turn the chuck key clockwise until the chuck closes around the new drill bit. Return the chuck key to the chuck key holder and plug the drill press into a power source, completing the changing of drill bit in the core drilling machine.
